Martha’s Song: A Woman’s Day

Nashville-based country vocalist and acoustic guitarist, Brenda Zitzman Lewis, will be performing at the Martha’s Song event “A Woman’s Day” on Saturday, April 23, 2016. This all-day “fun”raiser will be held in the heart of Robertson County, Tennessee at The Center and is expected to draw more than 500 attendees to downtown Springfield. Women are invited to come restore mind, body, and soul as different sponsors offer education, relaxation, beauty, spiritual, wellness, entertainment, food, shopping, and more.

Lewis will perform from 10:30-11:15am on the Main Stage within the exhibit hall. This all-day event promises a “Big Town” experience in a “Home Town” environment. Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 day-of event. Tickets are available at http://www.marthassong.org/

Martha’s Song was developed to honor a special lady, Martha Parker, who willingly donated hundred of  hours of time to help the citizens of Robertson County, Tennessee.  She voluntarily assisted other women who also received the diagnosis of cancer.  The purpose of Martha’s Song is to continue Martha’s legacy of offering hope and compassion to cancer patients in Robertson County.  Martha’s Song provides assistance to cancer patients in purchasing items such as breast prostheses, lymph-edema sleeves, wigs, medications, and medical equipment which may be needed as a result of the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and may not be covered by insurance.

Martha’s Song is funded through donations and fund-raising activities supported by volunteers.  Monies are allocated to the NorthCrest Foundation and earmarked for Martha’s Song funds.

NRA Annual Convention; Brenda Lewis performs with Morgan Mills

Nashville-based acoustic guitarist, Brenda Lewis, will be performing at the 2015 National Rifle Association (NRA) Annual Convention with North Carolina country artist, Morgan Mills.  The three-day event (April 10-12) will be held at Nashville’s Music City Center and is expected to draw more than 70,000 attendees to downtown Nashville.

Lewis and full band will accompany Mills Friday, April 10 from 1:45-2:15 p.m. on the NRA Country Sound Stage as part of the NRA Freedom Festival with a second performance on Saturday, April 11 from 3:00-3:30 p.m on the Remington Country Stage within the exhibit hall.  Friday’s outdoor stage is located at the main entrance of the Music City Center at 5th Avenue between Demonbreun and Korean Veterans Blvd.  The show is free and open to the public with Colt Ford and Hank Williams, Jr. as the evening’s headliners.  Saturday’s performance requires an exhibit hall pass for entry. 

Mills’ current single “Let’s Ride” features Average Joes Entertainment recording artist Colt Ford and is currently in heavy rotation on SiriusXM’s The Highway.  Mills, an avid hunter and gun enthusiast, has appeared on the Sportsman Channel show, Universal Huntress, where “Let’s Ride” can be heard as the show’s theme song.

Brenda Zitzman Weds; Becomes Brenda Lewis

County singer/acoustic guitarist Brenda Zitzman is off the market! Zitzman wed her longtime boyfriend in an intimate backyard ceremony on September 20^th in Nashville, TN, officially becoming Brenda Lewis in the process.

The songstress, donning a classic alencon lace gown with blush underlay by Nashville designer Olia Zavozina, married John Meredith Lewis of Springfield, TN in a small ceremony surrounded by family and close friends. She paired her dress with custom jewelry from Jessie Greene-Hill of Put-in-Bay, OH and donned her trusty pair of brown cowboy boots that she’s worn onstage countless times, giving her a casual, yet glamorously country look. She carried her grandmother’s rosary in her bouquet.  Lewis paired his light gray suit with a custom bow tie and pocket square from Nashville designer Otis James.  He carried his grandfather’s fifty-cent piece in his pocket.

Ceremony musical selections performed by Nashville string trio Athena Strings included “Rainbow Connection”, “Blackbird”, “Harvest Moon” and the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros single, “Home”.

Guests dined on grilled flank steak, creamed spinach and bruschetta paired with craft beer from the couple’s favorite brewery, the Sparta, Tennessee-based Calfkiller Brewery. Chicken and heart-shaped waffles nourished late-night guests who were still dancing into the wee hours.

The couple honeymooned in Oregon and will reside in Nashville, TN.

Singer/Songwriter Performing with 

Sherry Lynn Band Throughout Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 6, 2013) – Singer/songwriter Brenda Zitzman is set to be in the midst of the fun and festivities of the 2013 CMA Music Festival with performances scheduled throughout Lower Broad in the coming days.

Zitzman, whose resume includes gigs all over the world, will perform at the CMA Music Fest as part of the Sherry Lynn Band. Zitzman will play acoustic guitar and sing alongside New Jersey-based country singer Sherry Lynn, who is at the famed annual music event to promote her new single with country music legend Crystal Gayle. Lynn recently released the title track from her upcoming sophomore album, “Beautiful Life,” a duet with Gayle. The single is available on iTunes, with the entire album set for a June 18 release.

Zitzman’s fans can catch her playing 6-6:30 p.m. Friday and 5-6 p.m. Saturday at Honky Tonk Central (329 Broadway) and 3-4 p.m. Sunday at Rippy’s Bar & Grill (429 Broadway).

My Twenty Twelve: a personal inventory

2012 was a year of change for me.  I’ve never done this before, but I felt the need to do a written end-of-year personal inventory.

The year kicked off with an incredible trip to Switzerland which included a concert performance in Zurich at the Albisgütli Festival.

In June I performed at the CMA Fest on one of the official concert stages with my band Mustang Sally and we also made our debut on WSM 650 AM radio, home of the Grand Ole Opry, that same week.

At the end of summer I said goodbye to life as a road musician. After 10 years of nonstop touring, I decided to put away my suitcase and focus more on life in Nashville. Plus, I was just plain burned out and not enjoying it. I’m not saying I’ll never go on the road again, but it will never be the gone-260-days-a-year-playing-shitholes pace.

Right before my 35th birthday in September, I went through a tough break up. I’m still processing that. Relationships are hard. So is being single.

In October I conquered my fear of skydiving. I kept picturing myself hitting the ground with intense force and breaking into a million pieces. Turns out that the landing was the easiest part.

In November I completed my first half marathon with a very respectable 2:07 time. I already have two halves plus a Warrior Dash and a relay race on the books for 2013 and maybe–just maybe!–I’ll gather up the courage and determination to do a full 26.2 marathon.

And lastly, on January 1st I became an official member of the Polar Bear Club by jumping into Nashville’s 49 degree Percy Priest Lake.

I will continue to allow the successes, disappointments and struggles of 2012 to be teaching lessons for me.

In Twenty Thirteen I will continue to be true to myself and make every day count!

Have you seen my missing Taylor??

My beloved Taylor acoustic guitar was stolen from me Wednesday 11/21/12 as I was loading my car at my West Nashville condo complex. I was making multiple trips back and forth and left it unattended. Police reports have been filed, insurance claims made, listings posted on stolenguitarregistry.com, and I’m in talks with the good folks at Taylor Guitars. I don’t know if they can help me, but I’m hopeful. I’m currently accepting all forms of prayers, good energy, and positive vibes. This guitar has been my #1 go-to guitar for the past ten years. If you’ve seen me at a show over the past ten years, then you’ve seen me with my Taylor. Ten years, hundreds of venues, over 1000 shows. Hope to be reunited soon.
